As the cricket season approaches, the Seymour District Cricket Association (SDCA) is on the lookout for new umpires to join its ranks, offering some of the highest rates in regional cricket.

Umpires of all experience levels will be welcomed with open arms into a supportive association, with minimal travel requirements.

In a massive boost for prospective umpires, remuneration has been increased to $200 per match day, a great way to earn money while enjoying top-quality cricket up close.

SDCA President Mitch Itter is encouraging interested individuals to get in touch.

“Whether you’ve retired from the game, are looking to stay active, or just love cricket, umpiring is a great way to stay involved,” Mr Itter said.

“Umpires are so important to cricket, and that’s why we’re pleased to have raised the bar yet again in terms of remuneration.

“Earning $200 for an afternoon while enjoying the cricket up close is a great way to put some extra cash in your pocket and feel part of the action.

“The SDCA will support umpires of all skill levels to find their feet and grow into high-quality officials.

“No matter your background or experience, we’d love to hear from interested individuals and make this season a great one, for players, umpires, and spectators alike.”

The Seymour District Cricket Association (SDCA) has a new President following its Annual General Meeting. Mitch Itter will take the reins from Ben Trezise, who is standing down after several years in the role. Itter comes to the position with extensive experience in local cricket, having previously served as Junior Development Officer of the SDCA for two seasons, Secretary of the Tallarook Cricket Club for four seasons, and a five-time A Grade premiership player at Tallarook. Outside of cricket, Itter runs a communications business and has professional experience in education, politics, marketing, communications, and corporate affairs. He will be looking to use these skills to reinvigorate the SDCA. Itter paid tribute to Ben Trezise for his dedication to local cricket across his time as President. “We owe a huge debt of gratitude to Ben Trezise for his service as SDCA President for eight years, in what has often been a thankless task,” Mr Itter said. “Ben has always had the best interests of local cricket at heart, and his contribution is appreciated by clubs across the SDCA.” The sustainability of junior cricket will be a key priority for Itter over the next 12 months. “We’ve seen some really positive growth in junior cricket across the region over the past few years, and I’m eager to keep this momentum going,” Mr Itter said. “Our clubs have put in plenty of work to support our future stars, and we want to provide a viable and sustainable senior competition for them to transition into. “I’ve got some big ideas about the future of our league and local cricket, which I’m keen to explore with our clubs. “We’ll be taking on much more of a commercial mindset and looking at new avenues to promote the competition to new audiences. “I’m looking forward to working closely with all SDCA clubs and nutting out new ways to grow our competition.”
