Senior representative cricket has returned with a bang for the Seymour District Cricket Association (SDCA) following a convincing 56 run win over the Emu Valley Cricket Association (EVCA) in the first ever McIvor Challenge. The match marked a significant milestone for cricket in the region, providing an opportunity for the region’s finest cricketers to go head-to-head in a one off match. EVCA won the toss at Chittick Park and sent the SDCA in to bat with Josh Rudge (28) and Charles Davies (39) getting the side off to a flying start, going at six runs an over for the first ten. Rudge’s dismissal brought Lachlan Watts to the crease, allowing the competition’s leading player to stamp his authority on the contest. Watts dominated the EVCA bowling attack, supported in a 57 run partnership with Lachlan Drummond (14). Watts was eventually dismissed for 99, with 14 fours and a six, showing his class at a higher level. Cam Evans chipped in with a tidy innings of 22 not out to get the SDCA to 227 at the completion of their 45 overs. Blake Munari-O’Dwyer got the SDCA off to a strong start with the ball, claiming two wickets in his opening spell before Watts came into the attack and chipped away at the EVCA middle order. Across a game winning spell of nine overs, Watts claimed 4/40 and held two catches in the field to complete an incredible all round performance. Andrew Butterworth claimed the final three wickets of the match as the SDCA got over the line by 56 runs.
